The Book How the Bible Got From 1st Century Greek to 20th Century English

Product Description

When contemplating the Bible, too many people assume that it was created in a vacuum, without influence from the world. It is comforting to feel that God gave it to us in the form which we enjoy today--printed on India paper, bound in Moroccan leather, and with the words which Jesus spoke printed in red. Nothing could be much further from the truth. Down through the centuries, men have devoted--and often given--their lives to ensure that God's Word would be available to each nation in its own language. At the same time, others have worked just as diligently to prevent the "common people" from having access to the Word of God. The purpose of this book is to help the reader to become better acquainted with these people, to see how the Bible affected their lives, and how their personal lives - in return - affected the Bible.

In doing so, we hope to create a better respect and appreciation for those who have sacrificed so much that we might enjoy the greatest privilege known to man - to read an accurate translation of the Word of God.

It is also the hoped that those who have read this book will have a greater understanding of the various translations and versions of the Bible available today and will be able to make a better-informed decision when selecting a Bible for his/her personal use.
